Who This Is This For?

Underwater work is beautiful, but it is also technical, physical, and unpredictable.

Myth & Magic Malibu was created to provide a structured, safety-forward environment where experienced creatives can:

  • Gain real-world ocean experience

  • Refine consistency and direction underwater

  • Learn to adapt to natural coastal conditions

  • Build strong, cinematic portfolio pieces

Why This Workshop Exists

Ocean environments are unpredictable.
Underwater work is technical.
Great imagery is rarely accidental.

Myth & Magic Malibu exists to give experienced creatives a rare opportunity to practice their craft in dynamic coastal settings with guidance, structure, and creative collaboration.

This is the kind of experience you plan for in advance because you know it will matter to your work, your confidence, and your portfolio for years to come.

What’s Included

Day 1 - Morning

With horse and handler rental from a renowned stable provided, we will feel the wind, the sand, and the power of our very own horse beneath you as the sun rises over the Malibu horizon. This is a cinematic moment of movement, story, and freedom captured forever. Limited spots mean you get intimate guidance and direction to make every frame extraordinary.

Day 1 - Evening

Golden hour has never felt this magical. Explore Matador Beach’s dramatic coastline as light and tide create natural storytelling backdrops all while refining your technique and creating images that feel editorial, not posed. This is where art meets the ocean in its most breathtaking form.

Day 2 - Private Pool Session

Step into a controlled, crystal-clear environment designed for technical mastery. Practice underwater movement, timing, and posing without ocean unpredictability while receiving hands-on guidance to make every shot intentional and cinematic. Perfect your craft in a space built for focus and creativity.

The private pool provided also has a beautifully curated garden for space to conduct dry sessions to warm up in between being underwater in the pool.

Day 3 - Catalina Island Excursion

Ferry tickets are included in your excursion to Catalina Island. On this day, we will dive into open-ocean adventures among the epic kelp forests, dramatic underwater landscapes, and wild marine life.

Guided by both Mermaid Kalynn, myself and with mulitple safety personnel provided, this session pushes skill to the next level while providing unforgettable, portfolio-worthy imagery in one of California’s most stunning locations.

Day 4 -Optional Add On

Create dreamy, cinematic portraits at Laguna Beach’s iconic Pirate/Princess Tower and its magical tide pools.

These quick, intimate sessions are perfect for capturing fantasy-inspired coastal magic with crashing waves, dramatic rock formations, and golden coastal light.

Limited availability makes this an extra special opportunity to create stunning standalone images during the workshop.

What You’ll Walk Away With

This workshop is designed to
create measurable creative growth,
not just beautiful memories.

By the end of Myth & Magic Malibu, you can expect:

Refined Underwater Technique

You’ll spend multiple sessions actively practicing breath control, timing,
body awareness, direction, and environmental adaptation; both in controlled pool conditions and dynamic ocean settings.

Greater Confidence in Coastal Environments

Ocean work requires flexibility, awareness, and calm decision-making.
Through guided participation, you’ll gain practical experience navigating light,
movement, and changing water conditions with more control.

Portfolio-Elevating Imagery

Each session is intentionally structured to create strong,
story-driven work designed for professional portfolios,
not just experimental content.
While individual results will vary, you will leave with meaningful additions to your body of work.

Real-World Ocean Experience

Catalina Island and Malibu’s coastline provide dynamic, natural backdrops that challenge
and expand your technical skill set in ways controlled environments alone cannot.

Collaborative Creative Growth

You’ll work alongside other experienced underwater creatives,
learning through observation, shared feedback, and hands-on collaboration.

Growth doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when you intentionally place yourself in environments that stretch you.

This workshop is structured to do exactly that,
in a way that is supportive, safety-forward, and designed for sustainable creative development.

Our Commitment to you

Hosting Myth & Magic Malibu
is something we take seriously.

This is our first time offering this specific workshop experience,
and that means we are approaching it with intention, preparation, and care.
Not assumption.

Our commitment to you is this:

Clear Communication

You will receive detailed preparation guidance before the workshop,
including expectations, location notes, safety considerations, and what to bring.
We want you to arrive feeling informed and ready. Not guessing.

Safety-Forward Facilitation

Ocean environments are dynamic and unpredictable.
Every session will prioritize participant safety, awareness, and comfort.
We will assess conditions in real time and make decisions accordingly.

Structured, Hands-On Access

This is not a crowded or passive event.
We are intentionally keeping the participant group small to ensure everyone
has meaningful time to shoot, model, and collaborate.

Guided Creative Direction

Throughout each session, we will offer real-time feedback,
collaborative direction, and support.
Whether you are behind the camera or in front of it.

Adaptability with Integrity

Working in coastal environments requires flexibility.
Weather, visibility, tides, and marine conditions are outside of our control.
If adjustments need to be made, they will be made with transparency and the goal of preserving the integrity of the experience.

A Note on Natural Conditions

Underwater and ocean photography cannot be manufactured.

Visibility, currents, marine life, and light vary from day to day. Rather than promising perfect conditions, we promise preparation, awareness, and informed decision-making.

The magic is not forced; it’s created through collaboration and adaptability.

Our Intention

We are not promising perfection.

We are promising a thoughtfully designed, skill-focused, immersive experience led with preparation, respect for the environment, and genuine care for the creatives who choose to join us.

Meet your hosts

Kalynn has been a professional mermaid for over ten years, with experience performing all over the world. Before mermaid tails were something you could acquire with the click of a button, Kalynn hand-crafted all of her first silicone tails. At that time, she was brought on by HB Mermaids to teach mermaid swim classes to children, to host a weekly Meet-and-Greet show at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, and to sing at a local dive bar performing Disney and Broadway classics.

Since relocating to Georgia, she has embraced the other side of her unique skillset. Whether it be spring-hopping through Florida, or traveling into international waters, Kalynn now works as a professional underwater model, capturing the beauty of the natural world and its most important resource through the breathtaking power of art. She uses her creativity as a means to express her environmentalism, and to encourage others to keep their dreams alive. With Kalynn being the visionary behind the workshop, she is so excited to partner with Fins and Fairies for this incredibly special event!

Laura is a fantasy and underwater portrait artist who creates intentional, immersive experiences where imagination becomes a pathway to being truly seen. Through guided, playful portrait adventures on land and underwater, I invite creative souls to step out of performance and into presence, using dress-up and storytelling as doorways to self-recognition and confidence. My approach is less about posing and more about permission: permission to play, to explore, and to embody what feels true. I offer clients, workshop, and retreat attendees the chance to feel comfortable, supported, and bold as they step into their own magic and leave with portraits that reflect who they already are.
